Agent Sasco Builds a Fence Modern Builder: Episode 1

Welcome to the premiere of our H&L Rapid True Value Modern Builder series with Agent Sasco. More than a celebrity and one of Jamaica’s best lyricist, Sasco is an expert Do-It-Yourselfer. In this first episode, he takes on building a fence, outdoor kitchen and planter boxes! Talk about winning right now!

We’re off to the perfect start with Agent Sasco as he brings the brainpower and creativity to pair with H&L’s wide range of tools, safety gear and building materials for that high-quality finish.

Though this Agent has a reputation for building, we’ve paired him up with our own in house DIY expert and Branch Manager at the H&L Rapid True Value Sovereign location, Benjamin Knowles, to get the best of both worlds.

They are also joined by Marlon, also known as “Di Real General” who is quite good with his hands.

Throughout the series, expect to lots of fun, learning, focus on safety and tips to help identify the right tools and materials for the perfect finish. There’s also the occasional pop-in by Sasco’s wife and verbal project supporter Nicole – shes’s an expert at building people, not fences.

Let’s Talk Tools

Getting Started

Agent Sasco is known for his attention to detail in his craft as a musician and in his projects. This is a key quality of a good builder. Have no fear about making mistakes but getting started with the right foundation is essential to avoid them. Among Sasco’s pro tips for modern builders:

  1. Safety First: Sasco’s safety tips tops this list. First up check, check, check your digits, also known as your fingers when using power tools. Most accidents are avoidable with constant safety checks. Be sure to wear all required gears especially googles and gloves and no freestyle using of tools. Always follow the guidance given to use tools properly to avoid accidents.

  2. Measure, Measure and Measure Again: It’s easy to rush through this part of the process, but it can be a costly mistake. Be sure to do measurements at least twice to ensure you get the right amount of material, stay within budget and prevent waste. For this first project, they start off by using the level to make sure that measurements are precise and that the columns which will be placed with fenced fixtures, will be straight.

  3. Know Your Materials: In this episode, you’ll see that the wooden posts featured are painted black with quick-dry enamel. This is a form of water-proofing to prevent the wood from rotting.

We’ve started out ambitious, and so can you. At the end of the episode, Sasco completed more than half the work to get the fencing up. Everything looked so well done!

Stay tuned for part 2 where Sasco gets into making the planter boxes!
