H&L Agro to the Rescue

October 2019

Flagaman is a community situated on the Pedro plains in Southern St Elizabeth. The community is predominantly a farming economy kept alive by the over 500 registered farmers who make up a large portion of the workforce there. On August 16, 2019, the farming community was affected by a fire which destroyed approximately 200 acres of farmland, resulting in the displacement of over 47 farmers and the destruction of over 90% of crops, including grass which is widely used as mulching material.

In wake of the devastation H&L Agro executed an initiative to provide the affected farmers within the Flagaman locale agricultural input materials such as vegetable seeds, fertilizers, branded 45-gallon drums and other items to be used for crop cultivation purposes valued at over $2 million.
This initiative undertaken by H&L Agro, dubbed “A Hand Up” by Managing Director Marcus Richards, commenced on October 2, 2019 at the Flagaman Anglican Church Hall, Flagaman District, St. Elizabeth. This occasion saw over 80 farmers in attendance, along with notable members of the community and government.
