3 Reasons You Need to Decorate with Poinsettias this Holiday Season

Why shoot for the stars when you can have them in your home and garden for the holidays? We know right! Let’s all get some Poinsettias - also known as Christmas stars in some countries - and brighten up our spaces and gardens this season. Here’s why you need them:

1 They are Christmas Stars

The leaf bracts are literally shaped like stars. Poinsettias are an affordable and stylish way to add some class to your centerpiece or a little sparkle to your Christmas tree with natural flowers tucked between the branches. Did we say that a poinsettia wreath is a sight for sore eyes!? Ok, there, we said it. Now that you’re ready to go wild with those decorations, let’s remind you that they’re about 150 different varieties ranging from beautiful creams, pinks and even oranges, though the most popular colour is red. You’re welcome.

You live where they thrive

Indigenous to Mexico and Central America, Poinsettias thrive with warmth and natural light. Jamaica is …. “warmth and light.” You live in, “the land of sunshine”; Perfect! For those with not so green thumbs, don’t worry, this plant doesn’t need lots of watering. The key is monitoring the soil for dryness every few days; if it looks dry, water it a little.  Yeah, we know, you should get a bunch for your house.

Give your poinsettias some light by placing them by the window but don’t leave them there too long.

3 You deserve a houseplant (that doubles as a decoration)

If you’re like us, you like a good 2 for 1! Poinsettias are perfect for living rooms and even bedrooms because of its affinity for warmth and light. It’s safe to say it’s pretty low maintenance too even though you need to check it’s leaves every now and then to make sure you’re watering it right and it’s healthy. Yellow and falling leaves are your poinsettia’s way of crying so pay attention to your loves and keep the soil moist. So what are you gonna name your new houseplant? We’ll name ours A-Gro (pun intended) just because Poinsettias are A+ decorations and we’re all about growing and flourishing plants.
